Starting in the late 1990s and continuing up until today, Bibiana has focused her lens on musicians with the effort to document the feeling of the music, more so than offering a standard portrait. Often accompanying her husband Frank, a music writer, radio producer and musicologist, to interviews and concerts, Bibiana’s portraits tried to go beyond traditional music and concert photos. As the title implies, she tried to look deeper, to capture the feeling, the soul of the music and the musician. The portraits reflect that vision. Now, more than a decade later for most images, the artistic portraits are part of the musical historical record. The artist states, “I love music and I love photographing. When I photograph musicians, I block off everything around me and become one with the music and the musician. When I look through the viewfinder I only see the musician, feel the music and the rhythm, harmonize with it and try to capture the essence, the feeling, the soul of the music and the performer. It’s a unique experience.”
