Emergence

Bibiana was a participant artist in the prestigious artist-in-residency festival at the ‘Fresh Winds – The International Art Biennale’ in Suðurnesjabær, Iceland from December 15, 2019 to January 15, 2020. While she was in the program primarily as a visual artist, she also had the impromptu opportunity to join with various resident musicians and dancers. This video recording by Brandur Patursson from January 5, 2020, is titled “Emergence.” It documents one of such performances, an improvisational art collaboration when Bibiana accompanied dancer Amon Bey on piano. Amon is an American dancer currently living in France. The creative force behind Fresh Winds was director and curator Mireya Samper, who inspired these creative partnerships.

The performance starts slowly, as Amon recreates symbolic rebirth and emerges from underneath the piano.
